Final Post

I really enjoyed this year with my friends in room 19. I have had a great time at Elm Park and Can't wait to go to Intermediate. I will really miss my teacher Mrs P and all my friends that are not going to the same school as me.  I hope you have enjoyed following my journey at Elm Park.😃

Wonder Perimeter

Walt: identify and use the perimeter rule to calculate the size of Auggie’s classroom.

I was able to make an irregular shape and put some decimals numbers on every side so I can calculate the perimeter. It was easy because I am very good at perimeter.

Next time I can make it harder by making my decimals into hundredths not tenths, I can also make it harder by adding angels.

Language Features

Walt : recognize and understand specific language features.

This is a google drawing with different types of language features.
We had to research all of the language features and do examples of the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio.

I was able to recognize most the different language features while Mrs P Read the book to us.
Idioms and Hyperbole's were hard at first but I got the hang of it pretty quickly.

Wonder Portrait and Precept

This my Wonder portrait and precept. My precept says "Follow your dreams. It may be a long journey, but the path is right in front of you." It means do what you want to do because you have the capabilities to do it.

This activity was about rereading our book and editing. Every time we did a question we had go back and edit it. This was very fun, because when we met Precious McKenzie we knew a lot about him. 

Kindness Poem

Walt:Use new words the suit my acrostic poem

I was able find words the were kind words to go in my kindness poem.  I was also able to look in a thesaurus to change my words into new words that I have not used in my writing before.

Next time I will try to write an acrostic poem with more new words to make my writing more advanced.

John Pule Art

This is my art reflection for my John Pule Art.  every class is  doing a presentation on how they made their art for the school art exhibition.

Diabetes

In the story Patina by Jason Reynolds. it talks about Diabetes. In this activity we had to find 5 facts about diabetes. t was Hard to find facts that I understood. 

Ghost Speech Bubble

We did this really cool activity in class. We had to pretend that we were Ghost from the story by Jason Reynolds. We had to write four things that we thought Ghost was thinking before the running Race. I really enjoyed this activity. 

Calculators

Walt:use a calculator correctly

I was able to make five useful facts about calculators.

Next time I can put more info in my facts to make them more understandable.

Ghost Maths

Walt: Use a calculator accurately

I was able to go on to the rebel sport website and find some things to use to ad up to $2000 with a calculator.

Next time I can have less money and I can add it up without a calculator to make it harder.

My Speech

Walt : deliberately choose words to create an effect on the audience

I was able to write a speech with a lot of persuasive words to make my speech have a larger effect on the audience.

My next step is to put more persuasive words in all of my writing not just my speeches.

Ghost

Walt: make a prediction based on  the cover and blurb of Ghost by Jason Reynolds.

Learning Reflection 

I was able to look at the cover and pictures with the runner to make a prediction about why I think this story is about a boy and what he gets up to running and what I think the story will be about.  I was also able to read the blurb and make a new prediction on what I think the story is about. 

Next time I will look for more detail to make my prediction more justified.

Dance

Walt: Understand that people celebrate in different ways.
We had to find a group and make a acrostic poem spelling out dance.
It was hard to find the dances because it had to be a dance people celebrate with.      

Usain Bolt

Walt: Locate and evaluate information on the internet about Usain Bolt.

I was able to read the internet to find five facts about Olympic Medalist Usain Bolt. It was really fun and easy to search up Usain Bolt because he is really cool and interesting.

Next time I think I could do better by looking for more interesting facts to write down that not everyone else has found.

Matariki - Moon Phases

Walt: Accurately identify and organise the phases of the moon

I learnt the order of the cycle of the moon and that there is 8 phase. Matariki always happens after the first full moon after the winter solstice so the moon cycle is very important.

Next time I can look out side to see if I am accurate.

Queens Birthday

Walt: Understand passing on messages is important so we can understand why we celebrate

I was Able to get  into groups of three and decided if we were going to investigate
 Queens Birthday,Boxing Day,Labor Day or Easter we chose Queens birthday because we didn't know much about it.  In my group was Nadia,Sienna and I.  We had to Find Who,What,When,Where and How about queens birthday.

Next time I can find out more information about Queens birthday that I dont know.

Learning Reflection

I was able to Compare Jesse and Leslie to see what is the same and what is different.

Next time I can see if I can find more characteristics the are the same and different.

This is something we did for inquire we found out what different country's do to celebrate birthdays
